Environmental

EnvironmentalCronus understands the drivers of today’s environmental sector and the unique features of each type of business.

Public solid waste companies have undergone tremendous consolidation over the past decade. Strong, stable cash flows make the industry attractive to financial buyers, with EBITDA margins in the range of 25% for fully integrated firms that collect waste, transport it to their own transfer station, and dispose of it in their own landfill. While the recycling industry has a large number of smaller family-owned businesses that makes it ripe for consolidation as more financial investors enter the space.

Hazardous and industrial waste is a growth industry with high barriers to entry due to permit requirements which make it very different from the solid waste industry. It includes handling of all types of hazardous waste but does not include radioactive waste or medical waste. The hazardous sector includes the transportation of drums containing various chemical/industrial materials, emergency response, the collection, treatment and disposal of hazardous and industrial materials, vactor/vacuum truck services, lab pack services, tank cleaning, and the treatment of hazardous soils.
